The UFCW Tri-State Health & Welfare Fund is a multi-employer, collectively-bargained Trust Fund, which is jointly managed by representatives of several local unions of the United Food and Commercial Workers Union, and of various participating employers. The Fund has approximately 11,000 active member participants and 1,700 retired member participants, plus eligible dependents.
The Fund provides a diverse variety of Health and Welfare benefits to its participants and eligible dependents which includes insured and self-insured benefit plans, managed care programs, preferred provider groups, and capitation arrangements with various providers. The benefits covered by the plan include hospital, medical, surgical, major medical, life insurance, vision, dental, prescription drug and weekly disability, as well as other ancillary benefits. Benefit programs are routinely customized to the specific needs of the particular employers. Currently the Fund has 6 primary medical plans with several variations to each. In addition, the Fund provides only ancillary benefits to some employers. In total there are approximately 40 different benefit plans currently being administered.
In addition, the Fund also provides certain administrative services to the United Food and Commercial Workers Union Regional Pension Fund and the United Food and Commercial Workers Union and Participating Food Industry Employers Tri-State Pension Fund. The Regional Fund is a group of several single employer defined benefit pension plans, and is jointly managed by representatives of several local unions of the UFCW and of various participating employers. Approximately 2,000 active members, 200 retired members and their beneficiaries, and 598 terminated vested members are participants. The UFCW Tri-State Pension Fund is a multi-employer, collectively-bargained pension trust, and is jointly managed by representatives of several local unions of the United Food and Commercial Workers Union and of various participating employers. Approximately 19,500 active members, 5,500 retired members and their beneficiaries, and 3,100 terminated vested members are participants in the Fund.
The employers who participate in these Funds are primarily in the retail food industry; Acme Markets, Inc., Super Fresh Food Markets, Shop Rite, Super G and Shop N Bag stores. However, there are other participating employers in the Fund, i.e., municipalities, nursing homes and hospitals.
